We are thrilled to share this fantastic opportunity for two high-calibre bachelor's or master's students to join our EMEA Engineering Operations team on a 12-month placement. So, if your passion lies in Sustainability and the Environment or in the management of Energy, this role is a great opportunity!  

From day one, our placement students are fully integrated into Team Hilton and are involved in different aspects of the business. Our placements offer vast exposure and opportunities, such as networking with senior executives, involvement in regional conferences and for some, international travel.  

Based in our EMEA headquarters, Watford, you will be part of a cohort of 40+ Interns and take part in regular connect meetings, short assignments and feedback sessions designed to support your development. You will benefit from a subsidised restaurant, a games area and a free in-house gym.  

 

The Opportunities

As an intern, you will play an active role in our continued success. You will contribute to the delivery of key objectives, as well as having ownership of your own project-based initiatives. We have two placements available in the Energy & Environment team that sit within Hilton’s EMEA Engineering Operations department; Energy Intern and Sustainability & Environment Intern.   

Here’s a bit about the team and the opportunities you could get involved in!    

In both internships you will support the team with the management, implementation and control of the company’s environment and engineering programmes, and energy services across EMEA. You will contribute to utility consumption and cost management strategies led by the team to reduce costs, deliver value for owners and drive progress towards Hilton’s Travel with Purpose goals to significantly reduce environmental footprint and carbon emissions by 2030.   

 

Sustainability & Environment Intern: As the EMEA Sustainability & Environment intern, you will cover tasks relating to environmental performance and sustainability topics and have exposure to the global ESG team.   

 

EMEA Energy intern: You will cover tasks relating to energy services, contracting and procurement and have the opportunity to work with key business functions such as Finance and Hilton Supply Management.   

If you have a preference for one of these positions, you will be asked to express this in later stages. 

 

Some of the specific responsibilities you may be involved with in both roles are detailed as follows: 

  • Utilise and control the award-winning environment, social and governance management platform - LightStay, utility consumption data, invoices and other available data sources to analyse trends, and identify areas of opportunities for resource conservation and innovative efficiency solutions across the EMEA portfolio. Also highlight improvements and future development focuses for LightStay tool.  
  • Control and manage the reporting within the EMEA Engineering and Environmental performance program.  
  • Develop and verify the use of data analytics for consumption benchmarking, cost forecasting and financial reporting for the existing and onboarding portfolio, managing stakeholder queries.  
  • Develop and share best practices and self-help tools to assist hotel innovative utility savings and sustainability initiatives across the region.  
  • Provide analysis of pilot projects and prepare ROI reports for state-of-the-art utility and carbon reduction technologies.  
  • Assist and ensure compliance with company standards and the requirements of EU energy and environmental legislation.  
  • Review energy market intelligence and invoice detail to inform decisions in the utility procurement process and contribute to the implementation of innovative approaches to energy contracting.  
  • Maintain and update accurate records of all energy procurement, trading and contracting activity, as well as environmental legislation documentation, ensuring compliance with internal policy and procedures.  
  • Support Regional Engineering Specialists, individual hotels and other corporate functions with requests for sustainability/energy advice, initiatives and reports.  
  • Produce, develop and contribute to regular business reports and statistics as required by Energy & Environment team and key business stakeholders.

What are we looking for? 

  • First and foremost, Hilton is a hospitality company, and we are looking for individuals with a strong sense of alignment to our culture and values. 
  • Must be a current Bachelor’s or Master’s student with a required 12-month year in industry placement as part of your degree.  
  • Must be studying a degree in Sustainability, Environment, Economics, Energy, Engineering or a related discipline.  
  • Must be able to start on the 7th of July 2025, to work full-time for a 12-month duration.   
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK. If you are a non-UK national, without EU Settled or Pre-Settled Status then you will need to be studying at a UK university to be eligible to undertake a placement here.   
  • Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading and writing).  
  • You must be computer literate with excellent IT skills – Excel is especially important and PowerBi knowledge would be beneficial.  
  • You must be able to demonstrate a passion for sustainability, data and providing solutions.  
  • You must be able to analyse large data sets and take the initiative to identify priorities and make recommendations.  
  • Must have excellent communication skills, the ability to provide a simple explanation of sustainability and environmental matters to non-technical colleagues, and able to discuss complex issues with industry experts.  
  • Strong problem-solving skills twinned with perseverance and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.  
  • A resilient and positive mindset with commitment to the task in hand.  
  • An ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.  
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of ethical behaviour and discretion with sensitive information.  
  • Good time management with excellent organisational and planning skills as well as the ability to prioritise work and be flexible based on business needs.  
  • Knowledge of energy markets and economic, political drivers is desirable, but not essential.
